As the local State Member of Parliament, Ann Barker helps make sure the Oakleigh electorate gets its fair share of funding and resources from the Brumby Government. Including:

  • 6,200 extra teachers and support staff in our schools
  • $1.6 million to Murrumbeena Primary School for major upgrade works
  • funding to build pre school at Oakleigh Primary School
  • over $1 million for maintenance works at Hughesdale, Oakleigh, Sussex Heights and Amsleigh Park Primary School
  • opened new hall, student toilets, canteen and classroom at Glen Huntly Primary School
  • increased funding to local primary schools through school budgets
  • reduction in average primary school class sizes
  • $150,000 to Hughesdale Primary School and $100,000 to Carnegie Primary School for toilet upgrade
  • funding for youth services in Oakleigh
  • scrapped previous government’s unfair computer funding model for local primary schools
  • funded Glen Huntly Primary School’s Centenary of Federation mural
  • funded ‘Languages other than English’ projects at Amsleigh Park and Oakleigh Primary School
  • grants to local youth organisations for National Youth Week activities
  • 'Science in Schools' Program extended to a number of local schools
  • 86 new computers for local schools and funding boost for ICT support including teacher and principal notebooks and technical support in schools
  • grant for the Monash Youth Volunteering Project
  • capital grants to pre school services, including $63,500 to Carnegie Uniting Church Preschool
  • funding boost for five local non-government schools, including $48,000 and $18,000 for the Oakleigh Greek Orthodox College
  • grants to local primary schools for library resources and school sporting equipment
  • funding to Monash Council through the youth FreeZA program to provide music and cultural events for young people
  • funding for the Innovation and Excellence in the Middle Years program at Hughesdale Primary School and Oakleigh Primary School
  • increased the Education Maintenance Allowance payments for eligible primary students from $127 to $205 per year and for eligible secondary students from $254 to $410 per year and index yearly
  • $5,500 to every local school to improve school grounds under the "School yard Blitz" program
  • funded computers, software, printers and internet connections to local kindergartens and pre schools
  • increased funding and improved standards of school cleaning in all local schools
  • New funding model for non Government schools providing an additional $316,149 to local schools in 2006
  • $100,000 to Carnegie Primary School to upgrade classrooms
  • $111,000 to Amsleigh Park Primary School to rebuild its junior school toilet block
  • funded high speed, fibre optic broadband upgrade for every Government school
  • $300 School Start Bonus to parents of all Prep and year 7 students
